As we are faced with a genuine obesity epidemic, it becomes important to increase awareness about the unhealthy foods that we consume on a regular basis.

remove them from your diet.

#1 Microwave popcorn
Microwave popcorn contains a number of harmful ingredients for one’s health, such as trans fats, diacetyl and perfluorooctanic acid. While trans fats are extremely bad for the health of the heart, diacetyl is actually a chemical that removes the protective layer of the brain. As for the perfluorooctanic acid, this substance is used for the making of pots and pans, so you can understand how harmful it can be for the body. Instead of microwave popcorn, do your own.

#2 Chicken nuggets
Even though the chicken nuggets that are sold at major fast-food chains contain chicken, they also contain a number of harmful chemicals. We are talking about chemicals that are often used to prolong the life of over-processed foods, such as carrageenan, red#40 and diglycerides. You can forget about these harmful foods and make chicken nuggets at home. All you need to do is cut a chicken breast into pieces, coat them with egg and breadcrumbs.

#3 Candy
The store-bought candy has unbelievable quantities of sugar, not to mention saturated fats and artificial coloring. Sugar creates genuine addiction, leaving you craving for more and more candy.  As for the saturated fats, in time, these lead to the appearance of atherosclerosis, increasing the risk of stroke and heart attack. Artificial coloring is especially harmful in children, leading to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Forget about candy and satisfy your sweet tooth with a homemade dessert or choose a fresh fruit.

Breakfast cereals might be appealing for children but this is mainly because of their high content of sugar. When a child is served breakfast cereals on a daily basis, there is a high risk of diabetes, obesity and other health problems. According to the latest health news, breakfast cereals contain other harmful substances, such as butylated hydroxytoluene and butylated hydroxyanisole. They also contain refined carbs, which transform into more sugar, once they enter the body. You can replace these sugary cereals with homemade granola, reducing the risk of chronic conditions in children.

#5 Deli meat
Deli meat is delicious to the taste but not even remotely healthy. According to numerous studies undertaken by The World Cancer Research Fund and other similar organizations there is a clear connection between the consumption of deli meat and the appearance of cancer. Among the most harmful products, there are ham, bacon and salami. The main culprit is sodium nitrate, an ingredient that has been clearly proven to cause cancer. As an alternative, consume fresh meat, cooked in your own home.

#6 Processed cheese
Unfortunately, processed cheese has a high content of artificial ingredients, having little or even no nutritional value to deliver to the body. Moreover, it contains a high quantity of salt and saturated fats, the regular consumption promoting the appearance of chronic health problems. Processed cheese often has emulsifiers, such as trisodium phosphate, which are equally harmful. Stick with regular cheese, it is better.

#7 Refined products
Refines products that contain white flour are the worst, as they have a negative effect on the health of the gastrointestinal tract. Consumed on a regular basis, they modify a person’s transit, causing either diarrhea or constipation. It is for the best to reduce the intake of such products, replacing them with a high fiber diet. 

#8 Frozen meals
A frozen meal might get you out of trouble on a busy day but it can also wreak havoc on your health. Aside from the fact that it has a high calorie content, it may contain a number of artificial ingredients that are meant to prolong the life of the product in question. We all crave a bag of potato chips from time to time. But when you think about the high quantities of fat and carbs that reach the body, you will definitely want to say no.  According to recent studies, potato chips also contain acrylamide, a substance with carcinogenic.

#10 Margarine
For many years, margarine has been presented as the healthy alternative to butter. However, now it is known that margarine is 100% unhealthy, given its high content of trans fats and artificial substances. Consumed in high quantities, this product increases the risk for hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis.

#11 Store-bought sauces
While they may add flavor to your food, they will also increase your daily sugar, salt and fat intake. Moreover, many of these sauces contain artificial flavors and coloring, increasing the risk of cancer and other chronic conditions.

No matter how much you may like these, you have to give them up and choose baked or
roasted potatoes instead. Frozen French fries are known for their high content of saturated fats, not to mention the incredibly high amount of sodium.
