Preserve Your Winning Smile in 5 Simple Steps

Written by Contributing Author

Everyone wants good teeth. If we have healthy, white teeth, we’re more likely to smile in photos and when meeting new people. Not only that but a fantastic set of pearly whites will really boost your confidence. So it is very important to keep on top of dental hygiene. Not sure how to keep your teeth at their best? Don’t worry! Here are five key steps to take for excellent oral health.

Brush Your Teeth

First of all, you need to brush your teeth regularly. That means brushing at least first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. If it is possible, you should also try to brush after every time you eat. This will help remove any food from in between the teeth to prevent the chance of plaque and cavities. Another great way to take care of your teeth while brushing is to use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride helps to strengthen the enamel on teeth, which makes them more resistant to decay and cavities.

Cut Down On Sugar

Sugary foods and drinks will increase plaque, cavities, and general tooth decay. It is perfectly fine to enjoy sweet food now and then as a treat. However you shouldn’t be eating them regularly. It is especially important to limit children’s intake of sugar, as it can have a worse effect on young teeth. Rather than eating chocolate and sweets, give your family healthy treats like fruit, vegetable sticks, and toast to snack on.

Dental Checkups

You also need to visit your dentist regularly. He can make sure your teeth are doing well, and will be able to flag up any issues there may be with your oral hygiene. It is a good idea to book a dental appointment every six months, but once a year is perfectly acceptable. If you find that you have problems with your teeth in between checkups, you should book an extra appointment. Your dentist can help treat any problems and put your mind at ease. Your dentist will also be able to recommend the best type of toothpaste and brush for your teeth.

Wear An Occlusal Guard

If you know you are prone to grinding your teeth during sleep; you should think about buying an occlusal guard. This looks like a gumshield that is worn by hockey and rugby players. The only difference is that you wear this while you are sleeping. The occlusal guard is made from a mold of your very own teeth so that it will exactly fit. As you sleep, it helps relax your jaw and prevents any damage to your teeth from grinding.

Flossing And Mouthwash

There are some other steps you can take for healthy teeth. Make sure to floss after you brush your teeth. This will help you get every piece of food out from between your teeth. Using mouthwash will also help kill any plaque and bacteria on your teeth. It also leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean!

Follow these steps and you won’t be able to stop smiling!
