The line can feel a little blurred sometimes. But there is still a line between things we enjoy for hobbies or for pleasure, and things that we might find ourselves addicted to. So it can be hard to know whether you have gone over that line or not, can’t it?

For the majority of people, and the fact that you’re reading an article like this shows that you’re interested in knowing the answer to that question. But if someone is not willing to even ask that question, then it can lead you down a dark and destructive path. They can carry on doing what they are doing as they might just class it as a hobby. But unless you get it under control at something like a 7 day alcohol rehab center, then it can affect all aspects of your life and relationships. If you think that you might be teetering on the verge of that line, then here are some signs to look out for. It could indicate an addictive personality. So it just means doing things with caution in your life.

Can’t Control Impulsive Behavior

If you get an idea in your head that you just want to do something, then you’ll just go with it and do it. Trying new things isn’t a bad thing, but when you go into them without thinking, it could have negative repercussions. So the best thing to do is to slow down a little. Let the excitement of the idea or new thing fade slightly. Then you can think about it in a more level-headed manner. It might mean going to try it out after all, but it will have been a thoughtful decision, rather than an impulsive one.

Weak Commitment

If you find that you have a lot of grand ideas but can never get any of them to work, then it could be a sign of an addictive personality. As with the impulsive behavior, it can mean jumping around from one thing to the next. You might be fine with one idea or goal until something new comes along. So again, it is a good idea to take some time to calm yourself and make a decision. It is also a good idea to write down your goals and set some shorter term goals that will help you get to the main goal.

Are You Often Feeling Stressed?

Stress and anxiety are often associated with an addictive personality. You might have regret, or have a busy and stressful life because of some actions you have taken. The good news is that there are ways to deal with this kind of thing. For some, it might be something like exercise. But for others, it could be something like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy that would help you to deal with it all. So seek help if you feel like things are getting out of control.

The first step to take with any of this is to admitting that you have an issue. From there you can move on, make changes, and move forward.
