Being happy is the goal of almost all of mankind. Being able to feel joy and find pleasure in daily activities will help make life more fulfilling and enjoyable. Staying happy and positive through day to day life can be a challenge for some, but there are a few easy things that one can do to help them stay focused, joyful and motivated. These tips and tricks to a happy and healthy life are cheap, easy and can be done by almost anyone.
A Healthy Diet
While a quick trip to McDonald's or Taco Bell is quick and easy, it is extremely unhealthy and may not be as cheap as you think.  Even if you take the “healthier” options from a fast food restaurant, you’re still looking at over 400 calories in a salad plus processed antibiotic filled meats. What we put into our body literally becomes part of us. Our foods will dictate our mood, energy levels, and overall wellbeing. When we put processed fatty foods in, our body dedicates a ton of energy to digest them, it will make us feel lethargic and can lead to feelings of depression.  The average meal at a fast food restaurant will cost around $6-$8. For that same amount of money, you can visit a local grocery store and get a half pound of chicken, a head of lettuce and two tomatoes.
You don’t need to eat salad for every meal of the day, just try to make conscious decisions about what you are putting in your body. Fast food should only be a last resort. Try and eat balanced meals, veggies, fruit, nuts, and eggs are great options to use as fillers and snacks. They’re full of nutrients and healthy fats. Make a large dinner and bring leftovers for lunch. Try to not eat anything too large 2 hours prior to going to bed. You’ll notice a difference in energy levels and emotions within just a few meals.
Meditation & Mindfulness
Practicing meditation on a regular basis will improve one’s overall quality of life substantially. YouTube is full of free guided meditation videos that are great for those who are just starting to meditate and for those a bit more advanced. Meditations will help one feel comfortable in their own skin, they will become less reactive to emotions and be able to easily stay in the moment. When we let our emotions get the best of us there will be an obvious impact that occurs. Slight frustration can turn to anger, a sad moment can fuel depression, stress can lead to anxiety issues; meditation helps prevent this.
You don’t have to set aside an hour a day to meditate, just 5-10 minutes a day can make a world of difference. Find a quiet and comfortable place, even your car on the way to work will do just fine. Relax and try to quiet thoughts. This can be challenging at first, but as time goes on it will become easier and easier. After just a week or two of practicing meditation, you will notice a huge difference in your overall quality of life.
Exercise/Yoga
Physical activity helps promote stronger brain function, releases endorphins, increases energy levels and helps maintain a positive attitude. Regular physical activity is one of the most important things one can do for their health, for both mind and body. You don’t need to be a professional athlete and partake in intense physical actives to reap the benefits. Even Moderate aerobic activity, like brisk walking, can make a huge difference. Partaking in regular physical activity will help reduce the chances of one falling ill or suffering from a cardiac event such as a heart attack.
If you have a chronic health condition like diabetes, arthritis or heart disease it is suggested that you consult a physician to find out what your limits might be. Find out a physical activity plan that matches your abilities.
Regular physical activity will help keep one’s mind sharp. It will improve quality of sleep, lower the risk of depression, improve learning abilities, judgment skills and comprehensive thinking. It can also increase your creativity, lower anxiety and help manage stress. It is easily one of the best things one can do to stay happy and healthy. Just 30 minutes of aerobic or muscle training 3 times a week will improve one’s quality of life in various ways.
