Beautiful skin is something we can all aspire to. Apart from following a Daily Protocol of cleansing, toning and moisturizing, always wearing sunscreen and choosing the right products for your skin, there are a few other things Solvaderm recommend you do to keep your skin in top condition.

Drink plenty of water.

This seems like something we all would do, but it is astonishing how quickly the body can become dehydrated. The Romans called it Aqua Vitae, meaning water of life and they weren’t wrong given that 60% of the adult human body is made up of water, with skin being comprised of 64%.It is vital to our functioning and cell regeneration. The average adult woman requires about 2 liters a day to maintain optimum health, so drink up!

Eat fresh fruit and vegetables.

With so much pre-packaged convenience food available it is easy to forget to do this, however, there is no point in feeding the skin on the outside with nutrients and antioxidants if you are going to fill the body with foods containing free radicals and trans fats. Studies have also shown that too much sugar helps to contribute to aging skin. Fresh fruit and vegetables are packed with antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and water; everything skin needs to thrive.

Regularly clean makeup brushes.

Put simply, clean canvas needs clean tools. Dirt and bacteria accumulate on cosmetic brushes without regular cleaning that can lead to blocked pores, age spots, blemishes, and breakouts. It is recommended that they are cleaned once every several weeks (more frequently if you wear makeup daily) with a mild disinfectant, making sure it is thoroughly rinsed off so as not to cause any irritation. If possible, also try and go one day a week makeup free to allow the skin to breathe.

Increased blood flow means more oxygen is sent to every organ in the body, including the largest which is our skin. Improved circulation also means better delivery of nutrients such as amino acids, the building blocks of the body, to cells around the body. Working up a sweat also helps to naturally clean pores and aid restful sleep.

Get enough sleep.

They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing! With the body in an anabolic state where cell, tissue and nerve regrowth are optimized, sleep is vital to maintaining healthy skin. While eight hours a night is usually considered optimum, six to seven is sufficient for most people depending on their level of activity. Good sleep hygiene that includes going to bed at a regular time, not having any electronic screens in the bedroom and winding down before bedtime are considered the best ways to ensure a good night’s sleep.
