I feel that it is important to care for my skin on a daily basis with a skin-care regimen tailored to my needs.  Research is my forte and I love to view how-to videos.  I am also a firm believer that natural is always better.  A few nights ago, I came across a video on how to make your own aloe vera mask.  Unfortunately, I forgot to bookmark the video and pressed for time I decided to make the mask from memory.  To be honest, I rushed through and made some minor mistakes. Don't worry, to avoid any additional mistakes, I revised the directions and included some handy references.

STEP 1:  Find a mature aloe leaf and carefully remove it from the plant as far down to the root as possible.
Mature aloe vera leaves have a brownish color at their tips.  Once you have the leaf, rinse it with warm water.

STEP 2:  Cut open the aloe vera leaf and extract the aloe.
There are a couple different ways to cut open the leaf.  You can either use a knife or scissors.  I prefer both.  First use a scissor to cut the top off beyond the brown portion. Next cut the remaining portion evenly in half across the entire leaf.  Now you should have two pieces.  Finally scrape the leaf  to extract the aloe and place it in a cup.  Warning:  The aloe vera doesn't have a pleasant smell.  I was suprised by it's smell, I mean it wasn't the worst but I expected something different. The aloe's consitency is somewhat gushy and sticky.

STEP 3:  Use a spoon to mix the aloe vera.
Mix the aloe for 1-2 minutes until smooth.

STEP 4:  Wash, Apply, & Rinse
Wash your face with your nomal cleanser and pat dry.  Next, apply a thin layer of aloe vera on your face and neck, if desired.  Wait approximately 10 to 15 minutes until the mask dries completely.  Once dry, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

STEP 5:  Spray face with rose water.
The 5th and final step adds a refreshing feel. This step wasn't in the video. For the past several weeks I have been using rose water daily.

Personal Results:
I feel that I noticed an immediate difference in my skin.  My skin was brighter and fine lines have seemed to dissappear.  Homemade aloe vera masks are defintely something that I plan on adding to my skin care routine.  After I completed the above steps, I found different homemade aloe vera face mask recipes that contain added natural ingredients such as honey, egg, brown sugar, plus more.  You can find helpful info and more recipes via the following link -  Aloe-vera homemade mask recipes.

Skin Benefits of Aloe Vera:
Growing up, my mother often had an aloe vera plant growing.  We used it for minor burns including sun-burn and to prevent scarring.  Aloe vera is known to help with some of the following skin conditions: acne, fine lines and wrinkles, dullness, skin innflamation and stretch marks.  Aloe vera also has detoxyfying properties. In fact, according to MBG Lifestyle, "Aloe vera is the plant of immortality".
